Default how do you fix whine in 95 toyota corolla?

i drive a 95 toyota corolla, used from my grandmother. my grandmother told me that after being outside in a flood a whining sound began to come from the car. it is a manual transmission. the whine is at its worst in lower gears, and seems to lessen if i shift into a higher gear. it is also lessened or nonexistent when in neutral. i was told that it could be the water pump. any suggestions?

Have a reputable mechanic pinpoint the problem. Obviously, there's a big difference between the water pump and the transmission. The noise may subside, it may not. But keep an eye on it either way so there's no major expense surprises down the road.. Good Luck to you

You have got water in your transmission fluid. Drain and refill you should be good.
